I'm glad 'buy local' is now the new thing to do due to the 'recession'. I have been advocating for this for a long time, but no one listened to me. Well I actually understand why they did not listen, there weren't many local options for clothes, shoes, bags... you name it, we didn't produce it. This isn't the case now, there are a lot more products, brands and companies that are Nigerian. And the companies are not just Nigerian but they source and make their products in Nigeria. This is exactly why I have chosen Marté Egele as our product of the week.

Marté Egele

Marté Egele is a brand that has started with a range of leather handbags, leather accessories and silk scarves. This week we got to sample the leather bags and accessories; the cardholder, Estee Pouch and Estee Clutch. And guess what, we loved, loved, loved everything!

The cardholders are super cute! They are mini perfections of colourful leather. They come in so many different colours that it is so hard to choose just one. And I love the detailing of the coloured thread sewn on the outside. They are large enough for up to eight cards as well as some coins and cash in the middle compartment. You could have some notes in here, but not many, the cardholder looks cute flat, not need to warp its style.

The next item we got is the Estee Pouch. They aren't as cute or as colourful as the cardholders but they are definitely practical. They can work as a wallet, daily make-up bag (the one that fits in your bag and goes everywhere with you), or even just a little bag for your nick knacks to go in your tote.

And last but not least is the Estee Clutch. These were my favourites! Sophisticated, leather, colour, style - these are just a few words that came to mind when I saw these bags, oh and 'I want'. These clutches are gorgeous. They are big enough for all your goodies and small enough to use when heading out for a dinner date.

I am impressed with Marté Egele. All the products are handmade and weaved with real leather (crocodile, snake skin and plane leather). The colours and shapes give the products a modern twist on age-old products. The quality of the products, their brand and their overall service is even shown in the packaging. The bags are housed in black branded bags and the cardholders are placed in a cushioned box all delivered in a beautifully branded white bag.

Part of their mission is to support local fashion manufacturing and they are definitely on the path to achieving this. It truly proves that in Nigeria, innovative, creative and good quality items can be made and sold right on our doorstep.
