Being a Well Groomed Man

Posted Thursday, 19 October 2017

It’s becoming more accepted and expected for all men to take better care of their overall appearance. This includes everything from the top of your head to the soles of your feet! The trick is to develop a daily routine that is quick and simple. Many people believe ordinary things done consistently produce extraordinary results. The same is true for a man’s appearance.

These 8 grooming tips will get you looking your best whilst trying to save the world and still be a ‘macho’ man.

  1. Shave like an expert- Not shaving properly can cause unnecessary damage to your skin. Get a closer, cleaner look by shaving in the natural direction your hair follicle grows. This ensures a smooth feel and reduces your chance of  nicks, cuts and awful razor bumps. A good aftershave, like one that contains ingredients such as Aloe Vera, will help soothe the skin after a shave. And guys, less is more. No one wants to be knocked out by the overpowering scent of your aftershave.

  2. Brush & Floss-  “That guy’s bad breath is awesome’,” said no one ever! Dental hygiene is imperative to being a perfectly groomed man since you have to talk to people. Rinse your mouth often throughout the day, especially after a meal to keep your breath fresh.

  3. Groom your hair, all of it- Wash, condition and trim hair regularly. That includes your nose, ear and below the belt hairs. Trust me, everyone sees what’s dangling out of your nose. Manscaping below the belt helps take care of odour issues. After all, you’ve  got sweat glands down there that create a funky, musky smell.

  4. Shower daily- This is a non-negotiable grooming rule. Preferably shower twice! If you wash off the day’s sweat and dust with an evening shower, too, you’ll feel better and refreshed.

  5. Moisturize- Ashy skin is so out! Having dry, flaky-looking skin is unattractive. Invest in a good moisturizer and use it after showering to seal moisture into your skin.

  6. Visit your barber- Salon trips are essential to keeping your look sharp and well-groomed but don’t stop at a haircut. Tame your feet by getting a pedicure. While you’re at it, get a manicure and a facial. Okay, maybe a facial is over the top but the benefit of having all those layered dead skin cells lifted off your face is not only great for your pores, it’s also relaxing and will leave you looking fresh.

  7. Groom your beard- Since learning that bearded gentlemen get 10 times more looks from the ladies, you decided to ditch the razor. But now you’re stumped on how to get rid of the itchiness and dry flakes on your face. No one told you this would happen! If you ever want a chance at giving Santa Claus or Rick Ross a run for their money, beard maintenance is key. Your beard needs tender, loving care. Wash, moisturise, trim and brush it. Invest in beard care products that are free of nasties and packed with natural ingredients like nourishing oils. Apply beard oil immediately after you shower to get the most benefits. Opt for products  naturally scented with essential oils for major beard envy.

  8. Have a signature scent- Rather than owning 8-10 average quality bottles you pick from at random, find one or two classic scents you really like and invest in them. That includes deodorant, cologne, and eau de toilette to keep you smelling fresh even under pressure.
