If there is anything you should know about Lagos, it is that there is always a party happening somewhere. In all my years of living here and going out, there haven’t been two nights in Lagos that have been the same. Lagos has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a chill vibe, amazing cocktails or you want to dance the night away, Lagos has something for you.
My favourite part about Lagos nightlife and how it unfolds is how a night out that starts at one place can turn into a wild adventure that lasts well into the early hours of the morning. I have started out nights at one event, a listening party for an artist, for example, and ended up at a house party on the other side of the island. The beauty of this mad place called Lagos is that you can never predict how the night will end.
As I said before, Lagos has something for everyone, depending on your mood and level of hype. Here are some of my favourite things I like to do on a night out in the city. Depending on your preference, you could do just one or two things in a night or do them all.
1. Looking for outdoor vibes? Head to Freedom Park
Freedom Park has the best fish in Lagos and some of the best outdoor vibes. The former prison has been turned into a bar and park for people to visit, chill and enjoy a night under the stars. On some nights, you can catch live music, so look up what’s happening beforehand so you know what to expect.
2. Don’t want to go to a club? Rufus and Bee is for you
Rufus and Bee is an arcade and bowling centre that is the perfect place for adults who just want to have a good time that doesn’t involve a club. They offer a combination of the greatest arcade games, ultimate sports-viewing and amazing food and cocktails. Play a few games, win a few prizes, drink a cocktail or two and have a good time.
3. Looking for something fresh with new sounds? Head to Danfo Bistro and Dives
Every Friday night, music producer and Danfo manager, Adey, gathers a group of music lovers and asks them to present a playlist of songs for the guests. Playlisters are allowed to play whatever they like and guests end up discovering and enjoying music they may not have heard before. It also helps that Danfo serves up an amazing assortment of Lagos-inspired meals and some of the best cocktails in Lagos.
4. Looking for an upscale lounge? RSVP is waiting for you
RSVP is an upscale bar and restaurant that serves the best cocktails in Lagos, in my opinion. Friday night brings the best DJs to their poolside bar, where you can drink and dance the night away. The sleek décor, the amazing drinks and fire DJ makes you forget you’re in Lagos and makes you think you’re chilling at a poolside club in Miami.
5. Looking to dance the night away? Velvett is the answer
Velvett can be described as a lounge and grill bar, but at night it turns into a club like no other. Velvett hosts an assortment of popular DJs that play Afrobeat jams that keep you moving into the early hours of the morning. The best part is that you can get a quick bite to eat at their shawarma spot located right at the entrance. Velvett shawarma hits differently after hours of dancing!
