Once upon a time, there stood a mighty building in the heart of Victoria Island, and within these walls was the home of one of the most celebrated doughnut makers in all the land, Krispy Kreme.Their iconic green and red logo stood boldly outside on Bishop Aboyade Cole Street. But soon other brands joined Krispy Kreme, adding more colours to the already vibrant destination.
While all of Lagos was under a lockdown, the Krispy Kreme Victoria Island location went through a growth spurt. Krispy Kreme waited patiently for the quarantine to be eased to show off its new neighbours: the eclectic Dodo Pizza and the fun ice-cream bar, Scoop’d, making this the sweetest spot on the Island. Although each brand stands independently, they complement each other beautifully.
Krispy Kreme needs no introduction. Their mouth-watering doughnuts have captured tastebuds across Lagos. Everyone has a favourite, but the frequent introduction of new gourmet varieties keeps you coming back for more.
From the addictive Peanut Butter ’N’ Jelly and Original Glazed to the indulgent Caramelised Krumbs ’N’ Kreme and Nutty Chocolatta, coupled with a signature Frozze to cool you down on a sunny day or a spiced chai latte to warm you up on a rainy day, you can’t go wrong with a box of Krispy Kreme.
Strategically placed in a trendy converted container at the entrance and enticing you with the smell of freshly baked pizza dough and melted cheese, Dodo Pizza should be your first stop.
The responsible decision would be to eat a savoury meal before you head in for dessert, but no one will judge you if you decide to change things up. Whether you order your pizza to be delivered, or you pick it up and enjoy it inside, the range of pizzas is impressive. The mysterious and magical dodo bird, to which the name refers, is a comical character and playful reference that is the brand's identity.
The playfulness of the brand is also reflected in the pizza menu with options like Cheeseburger Pizza, Meaty Overload and Chicken Suya, as some of their creative creations. For the indecisive, they have the option of a half and half, giving you more of an opportunity to experiment. The popular Chicken Shawarma is a must try with its unique combination of spicy chicken, red onions, a generous layer of gooey mozzarella cheese and topped with a mayo and ketchup swirl.
On the second floor, basking in the sun, is the colourful Scoop’d. This new ice cream bar will transport you to simpler days, when going for ice cream was the highlight of your week, and simply indulging in the treat and getting lost in that moment was all that mattered. Scoop’d is reminiscent of the ice cream parlours of your childhood, where the vibrant colours and African inspired theme prepare your senses for a celebration, while the smell of waffles hanging in the air makes the decision to choose between the ice cream and other treats more difficult.
Though, contrary to what its name implies, Scoop’d offers more than just creamy Italian ice cream. Their menu includes other sweet and savoury treats. Their savoury options range from the Crispy Chicken Waffle to the Fried BBQ Chicken Sub, while their sweet options include the curious Strawberry Dream Toastie, a surprisingly delightful treat.
The beauty of the brands is that they give you enough options to satisfy every meal of the day, on any day. For breakfast, choose from a freshly baked croissant and cappuccino at Scoop’d or a Krispy Kreme doughnut and Americano on another. For lunch, try the exotic Chicken Curry from Dodo Pizza or Chicken Suya Sub from Scoop’d. The dessert options are endless, so you’ll just have to keep coming back for more.
