With a doorway flanked by two enigmatic marble lions, the exterior of 343° North Restaurant and Twist Lounge invites questions. What is the secret to this new addition to the Lagos dining scene? When you discover that the name of the restaurant is drawn from the exact geographical position of the site, in a convenient and safe corner of Victoria Island, the mystery begins to unravel.
Created by a family with over 30 years of experience running successful restaurants in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka and Australia, 343° North brings the same level of excellence their brand is celebrated for, coupled with a thoughtful approach tailored to its precise location.
Visitors are welcomed into a dining room with a modern, chic ambience. The global aesthetic features elegant touches like brass plates and saffron coloured napkins. A splashy mural dominates the far wall. A stylish private dining area is tucked behind golden beads.
Upstairs is Twist Lounge, boasting a modern bar, stocked with premium spirits and manned by a flair bartender. A deejay spins from Wednesday through Sunday, keeping the party bumping. There is cosy seating, adorable design for the perfect selfies and a Shisha Lounge. Twist has a separate entrance to the large, well-protected parking area, with another gorgeous mural beckoning you along the external stairway.
The menu is conceived with as much care as the décor. 343° North offers modern, fusion progressive cuisine with Indian, Asian, Indo-Chinese, Italian, Nigerian and Continental selections. From fine dining downstairs to small plates in the lounge, there is a mind boggling array of dining options available.
Signature starters include the Salt and Pepper Calamari, batter-fried squid tossed in herbs and spices that is crispy on the outside and succulent within, and the Rock Prawns, fried shrimp drizzled with tangy and spicy dressing, that are sweet, spicy, creamy and tender. To indulge in the best of the Indian appetisers, the Mixed Grill Platter is a must. Featuring Lasooni Prawns, Chicken Tikka, Pahadi Kebabs, Chicken Kalmi Kebabs, Mutton Seekh Kebabs and Fish Tikka, this platter is the perfect way to enjoy a wide range of flavourful, zesty and bright bites and can be customised to order.
At 343° North, you will find familiar favourites, as well as exotic and unusual mains. Don’t miss the Chicken Tikka Masala, boneless chicken thighs sautéed in tomato and onion gravy. This dish can be scooped up with Butter Naan, buttery Indian flatbread, or the incredible Chicken Biryani, a moist and delicious meat-studded rice, sealed in dough and served with a cooling Raita, herbaceous, vegetable-laden yogurt. Or why not explore the Indo-Chinese main courses? The Szechuan Rice is a flavourful accompaniment to the Szechuan Prawns, a spicy symphony of flavours. The Chilli Chicken is another delightful choice, a fiery delicacy served with boneless pieces of chicken, green chillies and peppers.
Desserts are generous and sophisticated, big enough for sharing although many guests will want to keep every bite for themselves! Highlights include the Sizzling Brownie and Vanilla Ice Cream with salted caramel and chocolate sauce, an explosion of sweet, creamy and salty. The Pavlova Tower is a work of art, featuring whipped cream and fresh berries layered in a tower of fluffy meringue.
There is a consistent level of excellent hospitality at 343° North. The dishes are of the highest quality with imported meats and generous portions. Spice levels can be altered to suit the palate of the diner. Special dietary needs can be accommodated, as well.
The space is similarly adaptable to the needs of its patrons. Business meetings can be held upstairs with a projector available for corporate meetings. Whether you’re interested in a romantic meal, a family dinner with the kids or an all-night celebration with creative cocktails and mocktails, it is all possible. They offer take out, delivery and off-site catering, even bringing a transportable tandoori oven to events.
So, what exactly is the mystery of 343° North? It’s simple, yet brilliant. The owners have created a haven that is perfectly situated in Lagos, Nigeria, which is why it is named for its global position. Every aspect of the guest’s experience has been considered, so no matter where you’re from or what type of cuisine you crave, 343° North can perfectly suit your needs with incomparable service, attention and care.
